Welcome to my Everybody's Business Blog. Please click on the Blog Icon to read my Sunday Morning Posts.
My name is Colin Read, and I teach and conduct research at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh. I've been teaching economics and finance for almost 40 years but believe my greatest contribution is in explaining our economy to those who need to understand it to determine your own financial fate. I've written hundreds of articles in the popular and academic press, published a dozen books, and have appeared on PBS, CNBC, VICE, CBC, on CBC Radio, Radio Canada, Radio Quebec, BBC, and in the NY Times, Reuters, Associated Press, and many other outlets as I attempt to explain to the public subjects as varied as the Global Financial Meltdown, Cryptocurrency, macroeconomic, industrial, and energy policy, global warming, and, from my experience as a mayor of a New York city, the interaction between public policy and economics. I wrote a weekly column called Everybody's Business for the Plattsburgh Press-Republican for the decade preceding, during, and following the Great Recession, and then served as the Mayor for the City of Plattsburgh during a particularly challenging period warranting financial reform. I returned to economic education in January of 2021.
Every Sunday morning I publish an article or continue with an article series on economic subjects that are rarely fully described or understood in the press. I hope you find useful greater understanding of complex economic issues affecting us all, and also hope you enjoy the blog and write to me with topics of interest to you. I will do my best to offer an economist's perspective on issues that interest you.
